CTL Academy Celebrates our 2021 Graduates
June 9, 2021 was Graduation Day at CTL. We celebrated four groups of students at two events. The morning event was for our four year old PreK children who transitioned to Kindergarten and our Fifth Grade students who completed elementary school and are moving on to Middle School while the evening event celebrated our 8th Grade students who completed Middle School and headed to High School, and our High School Seniors who are off to college.
We were very honored to have Ambassador Mary Beth Leonard, the US Ambassador to Nigeria as our guest speaker for both morning and evening events. Also at the events were HE Alhaji Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, executive governor of Kebbi State and all our other distinguished CTL parents and guests.
We are happy to announce that our high school seniors are off to the colleges of their choice. Nugwa Kadiri is off to University of North Carolina Charlotte and Oreoluwa Braithwaite is attending St. John’s University, New York.
Ubuntu: I am because we are….
Our theme for the 2021-22 school year is Ubuntu. Or more accurately, "ubuntu ngumuntu ngabantu." Ubuntu is an African philosophy that defines the self through community. It translates roughly to I am because we are. Nelson Mandela explains this way, “In Africa there is a concept known as ‘ubuntu’ – the profound sense that we are human only through the humanity of others; that if we are to accomplish anything in this world it will in equal measure be due to the work and achievement of others.”
This year at CTL, this ideal embodies our desire to grow as individuals by growing and enhancing our community, working together and sharing experiences through cooperative learning, project-based activities and maximizing opportunities for reflection, collaboration and new learning.
We are excited to announce the progress in the plans to develop our school permanent site. This purpose-built facility will accommodate ample indoor and outdoor learning spaces, indoor Olympic standard swimming pool, indoor basketball (NBA standard) and sports hall; outdoor FIFA standard soccer field; student halls of residence, and much more.
